Downtime 28th July
Just a quick heads up, the datacentre which hosts our server has planned maintenance for tomorrow morning:
We need to perform emergency maintenance on our core routers in our
Maidenhead Data centre at 7.30am tomorrow morning.
This will unfortunately cause approx 20 minutes of network downtime, which
we hope can be reduced if all goes well to just a few minutes downtime,
however we are allowing a 20 minute window for worst case.
No action is needed on your part and this will only affect Maidenhead hosted
customers, London is un-affected.
We apologise for the short notice on this maintenance, however it is
critical to continued smooth running of the network.
I'll keep you posted if anything else crops up.
Go go Maidenhead United
Got another downtime notice from my ISP, just to let you know.
You are receiving this email as we plan to move your rack mount co-located server and/or your rack space allocation to our new facility at the BlueSquare Data centre (www.bluesquaredata.com). The third stage of our move, of which your server or rack space is affected, is to relocate whole 19” racks to BlueSquare.
We will be performing the move starting at 9pm on Thursday 10th August and expect downtime to be in the order of 2 hours from start to finish.
I apologise for the shorter than planned notice of this move, however due to recent power and air-conditioning issues at our current data centre we feel it much more beneficial to move to BlueSquare sooner rather than later.
We will be moving the rack ‘is-is’ and will not be removing individual servers from the racks, thus it is not possible for us to move servers at separate times, or leave some servers online, as your whole rack will be moved. The whole rack where your server is located will be powered down gracefully and shipped whole to the new data centre by special lift and shift engineers on your behalf. The rack will then be positioned and powered back up at the new facility. We will then ensure all servers have booted up via a console. Although this sounds a long and complex move it is actually very simple with the right lifting equipment, plus the benefit of no configuration changes to servers or network.
Unfortunately due to the complexities of the move no customer access will be available to you during the move window.
We have now successfully moved over 300 servers to BlueSquare, without major problem, and we see no reason for any issues during this move.
There are no network changes, and we will perform the move on your behalf. If you are able to power your server(s) down remotely this would be beneficial, however any servers not powered down we will try to power down gracefully.
The new data centre is approx 3 miles from our current location, so travelling time will be minimal. We expect the 2 hours of downtime to be a worst case scenario, and hope to have all racks moved within 1.5 hours.
If you have problems accessing your server after 1am Friday morning then please feel free to raise a support ticket.
Thank You for your continued co-operation and I will let you know should there be any changes to the above details.
Downtime went smoothly, and the server is now in the new datacentre, which should allow the ISP to expand. Please be aware that there may be another hour's downtime this evening as they finish off the installation. If this occurs, it will be at midnight UK time (GMT+1).
