Since joining the DB server, I've been inspired to put pen to paper. Below are the two pieces I've written thus far, pretty much based on events as they transpire. It's also linked with another priestess in the guild (Ioné), as we decided we'd integrate the character stories. Wasn't sure if she wanted her work posted here though, so I've just posted mine.
Hope you like it.
She knelt in her room, gaze fixed on the swirling energy that enveloped her hand. Flexing her slender fingers, she smiled knowingly as shades of purple and black coalesced. The priestess cast her mind to visions of defilement, the mindless battle cries of green-skinned trespassers. Her face locked in grimace, it answered her call, obeying her anger. Arms stretched out in front of her, the energy flared and arced from one hand to the other, scorching the air and leaving it dry.
Thoughts focused, she cleared her mind. I am Shadow.
“Takumi, are you in there?”
Shadow disappeared into darkness. The priestess came to from her meditation, the energy dissipated. Takumi Arianell rose to her feet, and motioned toward the door. Crossing the poorly lit room, the moon light filtered through her namesake’s silver hair, an Arianell bloodline trait.
The door opened to reveal a priestess in her youth, her azure hair flowing down her back, much like Takumi’s. She held Ioné’s stare, sensing the urgency in her friend.
Takumi smiled, knowing it was time to leave. Many years older than the eager Elf stood before her, Takumi had taken a shine to Ioné immediately after her unannounced arrival. Reluctant to talk about what she had left behind to learn under the priestesses Tyrande Whisperwind, she had never pressed the issue, but had taken her under her wing.
It was unusual for Takumi to be so warm and receptive to the company of another Elf, preferring a more professional tact with her peers. During her long years at the Temple, this had earned her a somehwat cold reputation, but she meant no ill-will.
She slowly glanced around the room that had been her home since becoming a priestess. Many memories and time spent studying the Shadow discipline; time now to exercise that knowledge. Clutching her staff, the black energy once again emanated from her fingers.
“Come, we leave now”. Takumi briefly mouthed an incantation and with a flash of blue brilliance infused Ioné with fortitude; no harm would befall her apprentice on this journey.
Both Elves slipped silently into the night, to seek an audience with Faye Dawnstrider’s Sentinels.
Silence, meditation, calm; the priestess purged her mind of any thought, entirely focused instead on the energy within. No consideration of the distant sounds of Darnassus, the footsteps of the Sentinel patrols outside; only nothingness, darkness, Shadow. Enveloping her hands, the amethyst forces began to move in ways hitherto unseen. Takumi opened her eyes, anxious at first but then smiled, knowingly. She glanced down at her hand, now entirely swathed in Shadow, the ground underneath visible through it.
The priestess bowed before Tyrande, again overcome with a wave of anxiety as she was able to gaze directly at her footwear through the translucency of her limbs. Takumi did not show it; whatever the feeling inside at the Temple, in combat, even at social functions, she erected an impregnable wall in front of her emotions.
In the distance, Takumi heard a familiar voice. Glancing toward the Sentinel outside, she silently mouthed an incantation and found herself looking at a figure approaching from the central Darnassus district. The guard nodded as a young priestess approached, azure hair catching in the breeze. Takumi released the mind vision and, a rarity, let her wall drop at the sight of her friend, Ioné. Making her way slowly down the path from the upper Temple, she smiled briefly at Ioné’s reaction to her form.
The young priestess took a moment to focus on her older friend, her eyes unwittingly wandering to the moonwell behind her. Ioné stood hesitant as she watched the translucent form in front of her, shrouded in dark mist.
“Forgive, Ioné. Under the supervision of the priestesses here, I have finally mastered the Shadow form.” Takumi smiled, before dispelling the effect with a brief incantation. Admiring the white robes that adorned Ioné, she was suddenly reminded of the seemingly innocent Elf that had been summoned before her at the Temple, so long ago; such youthful exuberance, yet at the same time shy, retiring. They had yet to converse much of their past, perhaps still guarding what they held dearest. There was no doubting the bond, however, growing to implicit trust over the years, both now priestesses of Elune for the Starseekers.
Ioné, now visibly her warm self, motioned in the direction of the gates to Darnassus.
“Takumi, the Commander is waiting with the others at the gate, we are to meet shortly.”
Quiet, ever deep in thought, Takumi thought briefly of her time with the Sentinels. The great camaraderie of the Starseekers had lifted them through bloody and dark moments. On more occasions than she cared to recall, they had fought toe and heal with the insurgent green skins from Southern Kalimdor. Often brutal, but necessary, many had fallen by the Shadow she commanded.
Lost in the moment, she came to, noticing the faint traces of dark energies about the young priestess’ hands. She was proud of Ioné, having overseen her tuition since the day she first arrived at the Temple. This, of course, extended to the other priestesses that had been enlisted to the Sentinels. Commander Faye Dawnstrider seemingly bolstering the regiment’s healers, she would need to ensure a protective watch over these youthful Elves.
“Of course, Ioné.” Takumi smiled brightly at her friend. “We should go at once, we are to speak to another priestess shortly.”
