The Unseen Observers
The pride was left alone when thet fed. A few birds wheeled overhead in the air , shimmering images only as the sun scorched the plains of the Barrens and chased what moisture there wa sinto the air.
A few hecklefangs regarded the end of the feast from afar , offering no more then a few odd snickers.
The Zhevra was alomost gone. the Lions were full , but amused themselves with scraping the bones with their front teeth, taunting the hungry hyenas.
Einhorn was content. His belly full and surrounded by the creatures he adored.
His druidic powers had at last offered him this chance to study other lives.
He had received a letter some while ago. Someone was claiming they had watched him since before he passsed the rites of the Earthmother.. before adulthood.
He had been instructed to meet these mysterious persons who had said nothing about themselves. Curiosity had .. as it tended to do .. prompted him to search the meeting point out. It was not easy to find , and what he HAD found were no answers at all.
Just questions.. Questions and more questions.
He still did not know who or why. His curiosity had been denied on threat of death to even turn around and behold his .. tormentor now he supposed.
Not knowing when curiosity was roused was a nettle rubbing against skin.. a burr in the fur.
He had later sensed that he was indeed being watched.
When he was finally able to take on the form of a lion , he had snuck off.
Left it all on a whim and vanished.
So , they would stalk him would they.
HE was the predator here. HE was the one who would go prowling.
He was still curious though
The pride regaded him curiously as the lion sighed in a fashion lions do not usually sigh. If they sigh at all.
He had taken the chance to study these remarkable animals closer.
Even going as far as to enter a social group. He had challenged the male of the pride and won. The old patriarch was no more , but unlike a normal male he had not killed the cubs. Intriguing these cas were , but he did not want to breed with them.
With their cubs left alive the females would not come into heat for months to come.
They were still a little nervous, apparently fearing for their cubs still.
With everyone full and dozy , they were a little more relaxed though.
The cubs were fearless , as they are at that age.
They would hide if told to do so , but would not shie from any threat.
Full of youthful energy and having partaken in Milk instead of more solid foods , the cubs were running around and tumbling in mock fights. Einhorn lay still on his side , but lifted his tail and made slow lazy passes with it, till one of the cubs was mesmerized by the movement and came closer.
One Lioness made an unhappy sound at the cub as it closed with the big male, but it would not be deterred. hopping around , it chased the tails movements. Even climbing atop the large lion to get at it.
Directing the little cub with his tail , Einhorn felt tiny claws scratching at a spot on his back that had annoyed him for a while.
the itch gone , the tail went limp and fell to the ground. The cub pounced on his prize and dug tiny teeth and claws into it.
Feeling the sting , Einhorn knew this one would be off milk very soon.
he snapped the tail out of the cubs grasp and rumbled a contented sound.
He would have to move on soon , but now it was time for a nap.
He gave a great yawn and padded over to the females and plumped down among them. soon he was sleeping the sleep of a newly fed cat.
