Ezar Vorbarra's "death" and rebirth.
The automatic doors to the cloning chambers slowly closed behind the tall imposing figure of Admiral Golan Trevize. He cast a distasteful glance around the chamber, visiting these places was not usually a pleasant experience. Fortunately, it had been a while since he’d seen the inside of one. He wasn’t quite sure why he’d been summoned here today, the message he’d received had been somewhat cryptic, short and agitated.
“Admiral Trevize, sir?”
Golan looked down to see a small pale looking technician standing in front of him, fiddling with a PADD nervously. He fixed the technician with an unsettling, cold hard stare. The technician continued to stand there for a few seconds before clearing his throat nervously and continuing.
”I apologise for dragging you from your duties Admiral, but we weren’t sure who to contact considering…..”
“Considering?” The Admiral snapped.
“Well, it’s Ezar Vorbarra, sir, there’s been a problem with his latest clone.”
The Admiral growled with displeasure at hearing the name. “Ezar Vorbarra is no longer any concern of ours” he barked.
The technician froze, taken aback by the ferocity with which the Admiral delivered his words. It was not so long ago that Admiral Vorbarra had inexplicably abandoned PIE and allied himself with the notorious pirate corporation, mOo.
“No-one will ever know” the technician thought to himself.
“WELL!?” the Admiral snapped. “I HAVE A WAR TO FIGHT! THE MINMATAR AREN’T GOING TO KILL THEMSELVES ARE THEY?!” A sadistic smile crept into the corner of the Admiral’s mouth as he said that, but he quickly dismissed the thought from his mind. No, it wouldn’t be as much fun if they killed themselves would it.
The technician jumped, startled by the outburst, and decided he’d best get to the point.
“There was an ….. accident with the cloning vats ….. Ezar Vorbarra as you knew him is…..gone.”
The Admiral paused, suddenly curious. “Gone?” He looked over at the clone vat the technician had been indicating towards and could clearly see Ezar Vorbarra’s clone lying in stasis within.
“A system error ….. sabotage possibly, I don’t know” the technician continued, “We can’t explain it but something in the system caused irreversible damage to the clone’s neural pathways and erased his personality. Stranger yet, we can’t determine why the system chose to repair the neural pathways using the personality matrix it did.”
“Ezar’s gone? Completely?” the Admiral queried. The technician nodded. A flicker of sadness crossed the Admiral’s eyes. Regardless of Ezar’s recent actions, he had once been a friend. The flicker did not last long. He quickly resumed his cold stare.
“Well….this concerns me how?”
“The clone’s new personality is that of another one of your men, sir.”
The Admiral paused and raised an eyebrow. “Which man?”
The technician cleared his throat again, consulted his PADD and continued. “Lieutenant Mackerel, sir.”
An incredulous look crossed the Admiral’s face. He slowly walked over to the clone vat and studied the face of the clone within. The once proud and noble Ezar Vorbarra, now a shell inhabited by the personality of a scruffy Ni Kunni Lieutenant recruited from a dark corner of Kor Azor. It seemed almost ironic.
“You see now why we had to bring it to your attention.” The technician paused. “Our records show that Ezar Vorbarra was just killed in action.....by Ubiquia Seraph.....We’ve had to delay the clone’s activation….we weren’t sure…..should we terminate….”
The Admiral spun round and shot the technician a thunderous look. The technician reeled, the force of the stare striking him with the fury of a wrecking shot on a Typhoon's armor. He quickly recovered his composure.
“Ah ….of course not. I apologise” The technician bowed his head.
The Admiral straightened and brushed imaginary flecks of dust from his uniform before proceeding to align the Cross of the Sacred Throne Order that hung around his neck.
“He will….have his uses, I’m sure.” The thought of Ezar’s physical skills combined with Mackerel’s reckless personality…. the Admiral raised an eyebrow as he quietly contemplated the thought.
“See to it the clone is activated immediately. I will inform Lieutenant Mackerel of his new…..ahem…..twin.”
“At once, sir.”
As Admiral Trevize turned to leave, a slight smile flickered across his face as he wondered if Archbishop would be able to produce enough Augorors to satisfy the new demand.
[NOTE: Ezar has quit Eve and transferred his character to me. I cannot maintain the same level of excellent RP he did, so I have to explain away the obvious personality change he's going to have somehow. Also, Ezar was not actually killed in action per se. However, UQS were responsible for taking out his Apoc shortly before he quit. Resdayn seems quite happy for me to attribute the fictional kill to UQS and it seems appropriate considering.]
Glad we could help.
The loss of a 200mil + m0o bs, the attrition of a m0o member (albeit at the cost of someone leaving the game), and the return of one of PIE's loyal to the fold.
These are all good things and welcome.
Admiral Trevize, feel free to let me know if we can assist with any of your members that go astray again.
