The Voices of the Towers
The ancient beacon transmitting its signal from the Traumark Installation is not the only thing left of past years. Not by a long shot....
"Join your corrupt master in hell" Gaius thought with but a crack of his lips, revealing the pleasure of sending another Slavehunter to its cold grave among the Majesty of the Towers. Another one was closing in slowly, but with the extreme speed and pace of the Duty at his control, Gaius knew another scalp was his for the taking. Some seconds later the afterburner kicked in, pressing the Executor class frigate close up to 600 ms as it passed the remnants of the destroyed Slavehunter.
A screech echoed through the void as the Duty skimmed along Gamma tower, Gaius commanding the camera drone to focus on the derelict structure. What in the name of Heidaran, may he live forever, was this unholyness? Another screech followed by what might be percieved as static flashed across the com. "Secrets... outnumbered.. flames... LEAVE!!" Gaius made out as he tried to refocus and keep an eye on his threat indicator. A warning? By the Emperor!
Suddenly the threat panel flashed alive, blinking yellow turning red. Plagues approaching, Savages approaching. Incoming fire from the Slavehunter! With a knee jerk reaction Gaius kicked in the Afterburner, liquid fuels screaming madly as the Duty streaked past the two Plagues. Shields down. "In the name of my father!" the Kador Holder screamed in his head, alone in the solitude of his pod, thinking aloud what he was unable to speak.
How much time had transpired as he was listening to the Voice of the Towers? The situation had been a stroll along Lake Kador during the spring, he had to be gone at least half a minute for the offspring of cursed Sansha to get that close...
Impact after impact shook the Duty, scrapping armor with impunity. 60% armor... 45% armor... but the rate was slowing down as distance grew between Gaius and his pursuers, even though the camera drone was picking up flames sprouting from the starboard engine. "The loot will more than make up for the repair costs" Gaius mused, shooting another look back at the Towers, their majesty kept well even through the decay of time and infestation of pirates.
The comm flashed alive as an incoming message was registered, but this was no voice from beyond time. PIE Inc had reviewed the Kador Holder's application and a response was waiting at the nearest office. Immediately the course was set for the nearest system Gaius knew contained an office, and the warp drive began to suck capacitor energy like a child eating sweets for the first time.
Then came the screeching sound again, almost as if an echo from earlier. Static flashing across the com again....
We praise the the Emperor that you survived!
i hope ure repairs are underway and you have a safe journey back
The Duty is now history, although it served me well, and another two Executor class frigates have been equipped for recon duty.
As I have a slight habit of setting my ships' starboard engine on fire I deemed it wise to have not one but two replacements handy
So if you see an Executor class speeding by with an engine on fire please send me a wave, its either the Purity or the Persistance
My nOOb days
Figured it was good for a laugh or two
ahh the joys of being young.... so fresh so new, the wonders that this world has to offer!
